Turkish Dervish Dancers Act

The Turkish Dervish Dancers refer to a traditional form of dance associated with the Mevlevi Order, also known as the Whirling Dervishes. The Mevlevi Order is a Sufi Islamic order founded in the 13th century in Konya, Turkey, by the followers of the poet and mystic, Rumi.

The primary dance performed by the Dervishes is called the Sema. It is a spiritual practice that involves a unique whirling movement, symbolizing the journey of the soul towards union with the divine. The dance is characterized by the dancers wearing a tall, conical hat called the sikke and a flowing white robe known as the tennure. The dancers whirl continuously in a specific pattern while maintaining a sense of balance and focus.
